30 years ago: NICK CAVE & PJ HARVEY – “Henry Lee”

On February 26, 1996 Nick Cave & PJ Harvey released the single “Henry Lee”. Did you already know these 9 facts?
★ “Henry Lee” is a variation of the song “Young Hunting”, a traditional Scottish folk song whose origins go back to the 18th century.
★ The song is the second single from the album “Murder Ballads” by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.
★ The majority of the song was recorded at Sing Sing Studios and Metropolis Studios in Melbourne. PJ Harvey’s vocal track, on the other hand, was recorded at Wessex and Worldwide Studios in London.
★ In the demo version that was sent to Harvey, Blixa Bargeld sings the lead vocals.
★ The pulsating video clip for “Henry Lee” was created under the direction of Rocky Schenck.
★ This is a one-take video.
★ Body language is a prominent feature of the video, and after many different forms of it, the two dance a slow dance at the end of the video.
★ Nick Cave told the Guardian in 2008: “Nothing was rehearsed. We didn’t know each other well, and there’s this certain awkwardness and afterwards it was like, ‘OH … So you started your relationship during this three-minute video?” – Yeah right!”
★ Their relationship only lasted four months and was ended by PJ Harvey.
