40 years ago … METALLICA – “Master of Puppets”
On March 03, 1986 Metallica released their third album “Master of Puppets”. Did you already know these 5 facts?
★ The American metal band’s album was recorded in Copenhagen’s Sweet Silence Studios with producer Flemming Rasmussen.
★ “Master of Puppets” is the last Metallica album to feature bassist Cliff Burton. He died in an accident during the tour in Sweden, as a result of which the European tour for the album was canceled.
★ According to singer James Hetflied, the title song is “essentially about drugs. How things turn around, instead of you controlling what you take and do, the drugs control you”, as he revealed to Thrasher Magazine in 1986.
★ The album reached number 29 on the Billboard 200 charts and is still considered one of the most influential metal albums of all time.
★ In 2025, “Master of Puppets” was awarded 8 times platinum.
