WESTENRA: Gothic Rock from Whitby
SPONSORED POST

Westenra were founded in 2019. But how this “happened” is best told by the band themselves: “It was in April 2019 when Dominique, who had just moved to Whitby, approached Karl with the words ‘So … I heard you play the guitar’.” All three members of Westenra at the time had previously played in rock bands: Doninique (bass), Emma (drums) and Karl (guitar) “got together for a few fun music sessions before they put an ad out for a singer. Luci had been in various choirs and sung on stage with her dad, who played guitar, but she had always wanted to be in a band. Luci was thrilled when she saw the ad on Facebook for a singer for a new rock band in Whitby. She had only lived in the town for just over a year and didn’t know who the other band members were at the time, so it was a nice surprise that we all knew each other.” The first rehearsal together then took place “at Whitby Rifle Club, where Luci had her first audition. We played ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ by The Cult and ‘Devil Woman’ by Cliff Richard. Luckily it went really well, it was great fun, and the rest is history. After that, we started working on our own songs together.” – And these culminated in Westenra‘s second album, entitled “Burn Me Once”.
