BLOOD RED SHOES: Two People, One Musical Language

Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell have been making music together as Blood Red Shoes for more than 20 years. Over that time, they’ve developed a connection that’s almost telepathic. Their new album, *Stay Lonely*, will be released on September 18 via V2 Records. The duo wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed all the songs themselves, staying true to their tried-and-true DIY approach. Musically, the album blends garage rock, post-punk, and melodic moments. – Irresistible!

When asked about the song “Useless Sentiment,” the duo explains: “That’s the last song we finished for *Stay Lonely*. It kind of came out of nowhere. As a British band, there’s something in our culture that we were, so to speak, born with: a certain sarcasm and that self-deprecating sense of humor that we all seem to share. Many of these elements come through in this song. It’s about understanding your own feelings while, at the same time, constantly pulling the rug out from under yourself.”
