Where does the band name NINE INCH NAILS come from?
Freddy Kruger’s nine inch long fingernails? Or the nails that nailed Jesus to the cross? Trent Reznor eluded to an exact explanation in “Electro Shock! Groundbreakers of Synth Music,” to an exact explanation of the band’s name: “It was just a name, everyone has their own theory about it. But it just kind of fell into place.” He emphasized that NINE INCH NAILS was chosen because it could be “easily abbreviated” and it withstood a two-week test. He told Axcess in 1994, “When you come up with a band name, you usually think it’s great at first until you look at it the next day and it turns out to be stupid.”
