Orkus! newcomer album of the month for September
Exceptional symphonic metal
ACANTHUS
“Pay for Impressions”

Album (own production)

Acanthus from Reutlingen have dedicated themselves to symphonic metal and explicitly refer to Nightwish in the phase from 2004 (“Once”) to 2011 (“Imaginaerum”) as a role model. These are very big shoes to fill, which Acanthus naturally can’t fill from a standing start. But songs like the bombastic “Human Reign” or the ballad “Cemetary Hilly” show the band’s great potential (also in terms of composition), and with singer Lilli Janz they have a great voice on board. The alternating vocals (as on “Jiyan”) also work, but are much heavier than on Nightwish. If the band keeps on the ball, there could be a lot in it.
