An Interview with HEL’S THRONE (Part 1 of 2)

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

On “Northwind Chronicles,” the symphonic power metal band Hel’s Throne explores their favorite theme: Norse mythology. Drummer Andreas “Zicke” Ziegler answers our questions.

Concept (or lack thereof)?

The title “Northwind Chronicles” suggests a concept album, but drummer Zicke disagrees. “Each song tells its own story, but they’re all set in Norse mythology or history. Take, for example, ‘The Prophecy,’ which tells of the Norns who foretell the downfall of the Norse gods. Or ‘Ragnarok,’ which deals with the twilight of the gods itself. In contrast, there’s ‘Way of the Warrior,’ which explores the coming-of-age of a Viking warrior, with the goal of achieving glory and honor on the battlefield through rigorous training and hardship, ultimately to spend the afterlife in Valhalla. “Over the Seas” explores the discovery of America by the Norsemen.”
