Cold Cause, the French-German trio around Luiça, Mathieu and Bruno, combines post-punk, dark wave, EBM and experimental sound art to create a remarkably independent debut. Originating from a Joseph Beuys performance, the band creates a sound that is equally dark, hypnotic and full of energy. Cold synthesizers meet organic guitars, while the voice oscillates between melancholy, urgency and seduction. The special thing about this album is its field of tension: it embraces darkness without sinking into it and transforms pain, longing and uncertainty into something moving.
