DIE KRUPPS: NDH, Peer Gynth and Film Noir

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

As a fitting prelude to the spooky season, Die Krupps release the new single “Will nicht, muss!” As a special treat, the famous melody from Grieg’s “Peer Gynth – In der Halle des Bergkönigs” is woven into the song. It has never sounded so rocking and eerie. The lyrics deal with the gloomy constraints that the lyrical self is unable to escape. The grandiose video is in a film noir style. Jürgen Engler explains: “The original idea for ‘Will Nicht – muss!’ is based on the German film classic ‘M’ (1931), which Fritz Lang shot after his great success with ‘Metropolis’. The subtitle ‘A city seeks a murderer’ summarizes the basic plot. The murderous antagonist repeatedly whistles the main melody from Edvard Grieg’s ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ throughout the film. This inspired us to take Grieg’s melody and compose a tough song in the typical style of Die Krupps.” The single is part of the EP “Will nicht – MUSS! / On Collision Course”.
