We are in the agra meeting cafĂ©. Next to us are two of the DJs. Mark: “You guys are absolutely unbelievably tireless. What’s your secret?” DJ Hellsbody (Ingo): “Fun, joy and just seeing people celebrate. That’s pure adrenaline.” Mark: “How many days during WGT do you do this?” DJ Hellbody: “Five days.” Mark: “This year you have guest stars, the Twitch-Allstars.” DJ Hellsbody: “I brought in three different DJs who are well respected on Twitch and we just do the party and stream the whole thing on Twitch as well.” Mark to DJ Insert Scary Name Here: “How about the Nick Schwarze_Fledermaus_666?” DJ Insert Scary Name Here: “We were sitting planning a party and we thought: We need a scary name! And that’s how it was born.” Mark: “For over-50s, what is Twitch?” DJ Insert Scary Name Here: “This is actually a gaming platform where people play video games live in front of other people. With Pandemic, we discovered that for music for ourselves.” Mark: “I learned on Twitch, you can also rtake each other from a channel. How does that work?” DJ Insert Scary Name Here: “This is a raid function. We, as the person running the channel, enter the command, and everything that’s with us drops into the other channel.” Mark: “Is that a common thing?” DJ Insert Scary Name Here: “This is community-building at its finest because it’s a way to support each other.” Mark: “You’re someone we’ve always seen at the turntables. How do you feel about these newfangled methods? Do you wish you could go back to the days when shellac records were put on?” DJ Hellsbody: “I get along well with the Twitch guys. I’ve been doing it myself on Twitch for a year, but I’m not as active as my colleagues. But it’s fun, it’s nice.” Mark: “Do the younger ones know how to do that? Can they make the transitions?” DJ Hellsbody: “Oh yeah, they’re really good at it. I was DJing with Cyberella from DarkTunes yesterday, and I just enjoyed what he was conjuring up on the decks.” Mark: “What would be the most important thing you want Orkus! readers to take away from experiencing the maximum of musical pleasures here?” DJ Hellsbody: “Have fun without constraint. Just let yourself be carried away by the crowd. We don’t want to fulfill a direct clichĂ©, we want to give you a nice end of the day.” Mark: “Could I make a wish with you or are you a DJ like me who doesn’t grant wishes?” DJ Hellsbody: “You can wish for almost anything with me!” Mark: “I extremely admire what you guys are pulling off here.” (Text & photos: Mark Benecke)
