Ellen Benediktson comes from Sweden’s shiny pop school, but on “WID4L” she dismantles every form of high gloss with a desire to lose control. Between alt-pop, pop-rock and dark electro, the result is an EP that is as seductive as it is dangerous. Benediktson transforms longing, self-sabotage and emotional impulses into great melodies full of attitude. Nothing sounds calculated – more like an intoxication that slowly spreads. What is particularly strong is how openly she allows contradictions: vulnerable and provocative, glamorous and raw. “WID4L” is modern pop with a real pulse. And long-lastingly good!
