Entgeist have always straddled the line between atmospheric and classic black metal. This distinctive blend is once again their hallmark on their new album, “Welk”: harmonious melodies clash with blistering guitars, brutally fast drumming, and hellishly good vocals that sinisterly spit out the German-language lyrics. Thematically, the album is steeped in Baroque motifs: life, death, and transience take center stage, while melancholy and aggression blend into a dark overall picture. “Welk” is thus not only a very powerful work but also one that inspires deep reflection.
