Did you know?
– Iggy’s real name is James Newell Osterberg Jr. He chose his stage name because he thought it sounded good for show business.
– Before they could work with David Bowie on the album “Raw Power” (1973), Iggy Pop and his band The Stooges first had to clear British customs. Originally they were rejected! Only Bowie’s manager Tony DeFries was able to convince customs otherwise.
– However, their London performance was so shocking that DeFries made sure that the band didn’t get any more gigs in England for the time being.
– Iggy Pop appeared more than 58 times as an actor. He made his film debut in “Evening of Light” (1969) with Velvet Underground singer Nico. He wore white make-up, a large cross and made out with bloody mannequins.
– Iggy Pop is considered the inventor of the stage dive. The earliest picture showing him doing this dates from 1970 and was taken during the Midsummer Rock Festival.
