Lemmy Kilmister would have celebrated his 78th birthday today, but was never meant to pass 70: He died of cancer just four days after his milestone birthday on December 28, 2015.
Did you know?
– Lemmy was born Ian Fraser Kilmister on Christmas Eve 1945 in Staffordshire.
– His nickname comes from his love of slot machines. As a child, he often asked his friends: “Can you lemmy (lend me) a quid?”
– In 1975 he founded Motörhead in London. His voice with its incredible recognition factor shaped the band and Rock!
– Before that he played bass with Hawkwind. However, he was kicked out of the band for drug possession.
– Lemmy worked as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix for eight months in the sixties.
