JEANNE D’ARTE takes you into mystical worlds of sound

Viennese artist Thea Beck is releasing her debut album “Am Ufer der Welt” as Jeanne D’Arte on March 13, 2026, in which she mixes etherial with electronica and dark pop to create mystical soundscapes. The name is no coincidence. She explains: “As a child, I identified wholeheartedly with the anime ‘Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne’, which tells the story of a passionate demon hunter who is a normal schoolgirl by day. She lives a double life, jumping over the rooftops of the city at night and fighting for good in secret. She invokes the power of Joan of Arc. When I was at school, I became familiar with the story of the French resistance fighter. The mysticism of her persona, her determination and her self-confidence struck a strong chord in me. In my search for a stage name, Jeanne D’Arte kept echoing through my head. I tried to find alternatives because the name is not easy for many to pronounce or spell and more importantly, because borrowing from a historical icon is quite ‘brave’.” She pauses briefly and continues: “But it was just as courageous of Joan of Arc to proclaim that she had been called by God to greatness, defying all headwinds. I love this name deeply, I feel alive and strong in it and want to honor it, with and precisely because of all its meanings and associations. But above all, the name is also a symbol. There are many artists who carry on Jeanne D’Arc’s story and challenges in their work: not to let themselves be beaten down, to believe in their inner calling and to fight for it.
The importance of music as an overall concept for Jeanne D’Arte is shown, for example, in the video for “Schieferregen”, which – like all her videos – was created spontaneously. You’ll find out more about this in our interview soon!
