With “Supersonic Vampire Pussy”, Lords of Salem deliver a debut that clearly knows its place in the underground and draws energy from it. The opening track ignites immediately, dirty and direct, while a variable horror rock then unfolds, sometimes snotty and then surprisingly accessible. Between dark grooves, shimmering keys and changing vocal styles, a fine sense of atmosphere flashes up again and again. Not everything sticks, but individual passages clearly show where the journey can take us. The bottom line is that this is a raw, entertaining start with its own charm and tangible prospects for development.
