MAIAH WYNNE on the inner critic

Maiah Wynne wrote her new single, “See the Water,” when she was just 16 years old. Inspired by a dulcimer she received as a gift, the folk melody in D minor came together in a matter of minutes—and became a musical expression of her self-doubt. “What came out of it was the embodiment of my inner critic—that voice in my head that constantly told me I wasn’t good enough,” she recalls. The newly released studio version is part of her album “Into the Waves,” which will be released on September 25, 2026, via Kscope/Edel. Many of the tracks were recorded on the road in hotel rooms, sometimes using nothing more than a laptop. The musician played more than a dozen instruments herself on the album.
