MOTHICA – “Kissing Death”

Profound dark pop
MOTHICA
Kissing Death

Album (Heavy Heart/Rise Records)

In “Kissing Death”, Mothica strikes a seemingly effortless balance between catchy, pop melodies and a touch of darkness and profundity. Conceptually, her third album is a dance with death: dangerous and always very close to the abyss. As usual, Mothica deals with her troubled past with suicide attempts, alcohol and drug addiction, packed into varied dark pop sounds that are peppered with electronics and rock. The title track is like a revelation, both musically and in terms of content, and encourages the listener to liberate themselves. Although no two songs are the same, the result is a coherent overall concept.

In our summer issue, we talk to Mothica in connection with the new album “Kissing Death” about the de-romanticization of death, living with depression and – perhaps for the first time in her life so clearly and distinctly – a positive blink into the future.
