VELATINE: Gives courage for self-realization

Velatine now consists of mastermind Loki Lockwood and singer Holly Purnell. The Australian dark wave duo shines with another single: “We’re Not Suburban”. The song is extremely personal and reflects Loki’s teenage years. He explains: “E is laced with dark imagery. Isolation, that feeling of being trapped somewhere, so boring, like being buried in the family grave. While my peers were getting through school effortlessly, I was struggling and failing. I watched them have fun running around a field and kicking a ball. My taste in music was considered weird, but I wanted to be like the weirdos who made that music and saw an exciting world through their eyes. How could I not have felt the desire to venture beyond the gates of suburbia? Although I went to music school, I was never particularly good at it in the eyes of education. They wanted mastery. My musical idols pushed aside technical skills, prioritized emotion and made anything possible. That set me on the path that has led me to this day. So if a little bat baby feeling isolated ‘out there’ hears this song and it touches them enough to follow their creative dreams, I die happy. For anyone stuck in a place where conformity is expected, financial security is never enough and everything seems bitter: make this song your anthem. Be brave, escape and fulfill your dreams.”
