The Sisters of Mercy’s non-album track single “Alice” was released exactly 42 years ago to the day on November 21, 1982. Did you already know these 5 facts?
★ “Alice” was pre-produced together with “Floorshow”, “1969” (Stooges cover) and “Good Things” within a week in mastermind Andrew Eldritch’s apartment in Leeds.
★ The four songs were recorded over two weekends with producer John Ashton (Psychedelic Furs) in Bridlington.
★ “Alice” and “Floorshow” were released as The Sisters of Mercy ‘s third 7” single on November 21, 1982.
★ The EP was never released as a stand-alone CD, but it is included in “Some Girls Wander by Mistake”.
★ In 1990, Andrew told the New Musical Express: “My attitude to “Alice” has changed over the years. I wrote it in ten minutes, about pills and tranquilizers, when I was still worried about seeing people I knew getting dragged down by all that stuff. Now I don’t really care.”
