TYPE O NEGATIVE: Where does the band name come from?

The name TYPE O NEGATIVE reflects not only the English name for the blood group zero-negative, but also an allusion to the depressive mood of the lyrics. The original idea was the band name SUBZERO. Mastermind Peter Steele mentioned to Hard Rock TV in 1997 that he had a tattoo in his head that was supposed to show a minus sign in the number zero. He then had it tattooed on his right arm. However, as there was already a band with this name, he decided on TYPE O NEGATIVE. Why? He recalled: “I don’t normally listen to the radio, but I heard that the Red Cross was asking for zero-negative blood donations. That was it!”
