DEPECHE MODE: About supposed friends

On August 24, 1987 – exactly 38 years ago – Depeche Mode released “Never Let Me Down Again”. Did you already know these 5 facts?
★ The demos for the song were recorded in Alan Wilder’s house during the pre-production phase.
★ The friend sung about in “Never Let Me Down Again” is a metaphor for drugs. The band has had various experiences with this over the years: in the early nineties, Dave Gahan himself was heavily addicted to heroin and cocaine. Martin Gore was addicted to alcohol at the time.
★ In the UK “Never Let Me Down Again” reached number 22, in Austria 29, in the USA 63, in Switzerland and in Germany number 2!
★ So far, “Never Let Me Down” has been played live 1,149 times – on every tour and at almost every concert, usually towards the end of a set.
★ It is therefore by far the track Depeche Mode plays live most often.
