PROTOMARTYR: Post-punk from Detroit

On September 25, Protomartyr will release their seventh studio album, *Hotel Usona*. It was recorded with producer Dave Fridmann (Nick Cave, MGMT, The Flaming Lips) at his Tarbox Road Studios in New York. Thematically, singer Joe Casey reflects on a society in decline. AI, deportation, nationalism, political radicalization, and the challenges of becoming a father are depicted as snapshots of a country that is increasingly losing its footing. Musically, Protomartyr are also expanding their sound: guitarist Greg Ahee blends the band’s signature dark soundscape with influences from the Middle East.
