THE SISTERS OF MERCY – “Floodland” was released 37 years ago today. Do you know these 5 facts?

Exactly 37 years ago to the day, “Floodland” was released as the second album by The Sisters of Mercy on November 16, 1987. Did you already know these 5 facts?
★ Mastermind Andrew Eldritch wrote the songs in Hamburg.
★ The recordings took place in January 1987 at New York’s Power Station Studios and continued at Strawberry Studios (Stockport) and The Wool Hall (Bath) over the next six months.
★ The starting point for the album “Floodland” was the song “This Corrosion”, which was produced by Jim Steinman (including “Total Eclipse of the Heart”). He is also responsible for the production of “Dominion”.
★ After Andrew Eldritch had finished writing the songs, he realized that the element of water kept recurring, so the title “Floodland” seemed obvious to him. “Flood I” and “Flood II” use “flood” as a metaphor for sex.
★ “Dominion” / “Mother Russia” was inspired by Ozymandias (1818). Another source of inspiration was the Chernobyl disaster. According to Eldritch, the piece is “about the prostitution of Europe by the Americans.”
