In 1991, “Gothic” by Paradise Lost heralded the birth of gothic (doom) metal. The album was remastered and reissued for its 35th anniversary. No more words need to be said about songs such as “Gothic”, “Eternal” or “Falling Forever”, they shaped a new genre and attracted countless imitators. Not many bands can claim that. Those who opt for the CD version of “Gothic” will receive a bonus disc with a concert from 1991 in Ludwigshafen, which documents the band in their early phase. No question, this classic (plus bonus material) deserves to be rediscovered.
