PUSCIFER: Shelter, bridge or gallows, coffin?

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

Puscifer is the brainchild of Maynard James Keenan(Tool, A Perfect Circle), Mat Mitchell and Carina Round. The name comes from the US comedy series “Mr. Show”, in which Maynard plays a band member of an imaginary band called Puscifer. Since the band’s ten-year anniversary, Danny Lohner(Nine Inch Nails), Brad Wilk(Rage Against the Machine) and Tim Commerford have also been involved. The new Puscifer album“Normal Isn’t” will be released on February 06, 2026. Elements of gothic, post-punk and new wave are combined to create a pleasing whole that is fresh and somehow different.

Normal Isn’t” was written in Arizona and in the new Puscifer studio in Los Angeles. Synthesizers such as Moog One, Fairlight CMI and Synclavier shaped the soundscape, while the guitar plays a more prominent role. In our next issue, we talk to Mat in detail about “Normal Isn’t”.

Maynard thinks of the song “ImpetuoUs”: “I’m excited to see where this song will take people. As songwriters, w e sometimes forget that w e are carpenters in a sense and have been accompanying this song since it w as just a pile of wood. Our perspective may differ from that of the final inhabitant of this space we have created. Shelter, bridge or gallows, coffin? I’m curious to find out.”
