SNOW WHITE BLOOD: Dark fairy tales retold

Snow White Blood have now been resurrected after their brief separation in 2023. And remain true to their fairytale theme. “Nevermore” is a particularly dark fairy tale. Singer Sarah explains: “In fact, fairy tales are usually much darker than you might think at first. With some fairy tales, I’m not even really sure if they’re really suitable for children (laughs). ‘Nevermore’ refers to the fairy tale ‘The Red Shoes’ by Hans Christian Andersen. A girl is given these shoes by her dying mother and over the course of her life she identifies more and more with them. At first the red shoes only lift her mood and imperceptibly tempt her to make wrong decisions, then a kind of intoxication develops whenever she wears them, and gradually the shoes develop a life of their own and finally take over completely. To me, this clearly sounds like an addiction, an addiction that the girl has inherited from her mother and which she finally kills. A very sad, yet important story, not at all set in fairytale land, but frighteningly realistic. I feel that fairy tales and the lessons they teach can be used in everyday life, which is how fairy tales were originally intended: as educational stories.”
