STAHLMANN in an interview

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

The first herald for the new Stahlmann album is the single “Luxusuniform”. We talk to frontman Mart Soer about the appeal of uniforms, find out the first information about the new album and want to know something about the upcoming tour that no one has ever asked him in the band’s 15 years of existence.

Orkus: What was the source of inspiration for “Luxusuniform”?
Martin Soer: They were, of course, the beautiful women in the scene. I think girls in uniform are simply stunning … So it was only a matter of time before they made it into my songs.

Tight uniforms?
O: How do you personally feel about uniforms? What makes it so appealing?
MS: I like them because they are smart and neat. They are simply elegant and have grace. All of this combined makes them special.

O: What must a smart “luxury uniform” be like? Or is it more about who is in it?
MS: It’s a combination of both. It should dress you well and emphasize your personality. I don’t think there is a typical uniform type. I think it just depends on the right combination. One person’s luxury uniform doesn’t necessarily suit another.

Well dressed?
O: And with men? Would you also wear a uniform?
MS: I even have one and wear it here and there. I also like men’s uniforms and suits. Men in uniforms and suits are elegant and always a good choice if you want something special.

O: Back to the song again. There was also a very cool video made. How did you feel about the shoot?
MS: That was great fun! We started planning relatively early on because I wanted an end-time scenario this time, similar to the “Plasma” video back then. The day itself was of course stressful because everything had to run like clockwork, as we also had a photo shoot in the same location because I wanted the same atmosphere in the pictures. But I think it was all more than worth it. (smiles)

Outlook
O: What can you already reveal about the new album? Is there a title? A common thread?
MS: Yes, the new album will be called “Phosphor”. We’ve always used names like “Adamant”, “Quecksilber” etc. for our albums. As we are celebrating our 15th anniversary this year, “phosphorus” was practically an obvious choice, as it is P15 in the periodic table. The central theme is the last 15 years of Stahlmann. A cross-section of all facets of the band, but also new influences can be heard. Let us surprise you!

Live!
O: But before that, we’re going on tour! Will we be able to hear one or two new songs?
MS: Of course, we’re not going to reveal the setlist yet, but we’re working hard on it and I’m sure that one or two songs will make it onto the list. We are currently trying out a few new things, working on the decorations and fine-tuning the final program.

Pigeon spiders!?
O: Do you have some kind of “ritual” before the shows? How are you preparing for this?
MS: Haha, I’ll actually be asked this question for the first time in 15 years … it’s crazy, isn’t it? I always thought I could get around it. I need to expand on this a little. Twelve years ago Toberkel, my first guitarist, designed the spider in our lettering. At some point he animated them on tour for fun. But it didn’t look as if it was crawling, but rather as if a dead pigeon was falling from the sky. So when it fell, we all shouted “Guuuruuuu”, just like pigeons call … Even today, we cross our hands before every show. I then ask: “How does the spider do?” and everyone shouts “Guuuuuuurruuuuu!” Then the intro starts. (smiles)
