SWORD TONGUE: Mesmerizing dark/alternative rock

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

Jennifer Wilde and her husband Gaetano Maleki founded Sword Tongue in 2019 and have since found support from drummer and producer Dan Milligan. Gaetano explains how this came about: “Jennifer asked him to remix a song from our second EP “Into the Sun”, which gave us an idea of how we could take our sound to the next level. We enjoyed the collaboration so much that we asked Dan if he would like to work more closely with us on the next EP. ‘Taming the Night Wolves’. Dan’s creative genius was largely responsible for the leap you hear on this album.” And so they continue to work together on the latest work “Bonfire in the Tempest”.

The track “Diamonds to Rust” is particularly thought-provoking. Was there a particular trigger? Gaetano explains that his son has just turned 21 and Jennifer’s is 23. In addition, she and her husband recently celebrated milestone birthdays. “Mine was at the height of the pandemic lockdowns and I felt a huge sense of loss. All these moments, when they pass, give you pause … they make you realize that maybe there’s more time behind you than in front of you.” What comforts you in such moments? Gaetano nods: “I just keep moving forward and developing as a person, that’s what keeps me going.” Jennifer envies him for his attitude: “You’re always very good at overcoming such thoughts. I try to focus on simple pleasures, like the smell of the air coming in through the window at night, or the twinkle of the lights in our garden. I try to connect with people in person (despite my introversion) as an antidote to division and hopelessness. I also find the act of creating incredibly comforting, a way to counteract the passing of time by creating art that will outlast me and capture a particular moment.” Find out more in our next issue.
