That’s how it was with KIRLIAN CAMERA

March 01, 2026, Vienna, Viper Room
Support: VÖEST

On Sunday evening, the local Viennese gothic scene gathered in the Viper Room. The warm welcome at the entrance, the successful teamwork of the Schattenwelt community and the fantastic organization of the concert evening clearly showed what cohesion means in a subculture. Kirlian Camera attracted fans of different age groups. Everyone from early 30s to late 70s filled the Viper Room to lose themselves in the moment of music.

Hot start
“We are VÖEST and we play Electronic Music” was the announcement before the Austrians kicked off the evening with “Chernobyl”. After just one look at the front rows of the audience, it was clear that the band had mobilized their own fanbase and would be returning home with new fans after the second song “D-Fend” at the latest. After five strong songs and an enthusiastic crowd, the band said goodbye, but the audience demanded more. “We only rehearsed five songs,” singer Hans Janousek said and so they played “Solaris” one more time before leaving the stage and continuing to enjoy the evening from the rows of the audience.

Emotional vibrations

Kirlian Camera opened their set with “C.R.U.D”. Blue and pink light gently enveloped the Italian trio. As soon as Elena Alice Fossi let her soulful voice ring out, a tingle crawled through the audience’s bodies. “The Great Unknown”, “Götter geht weg!” and the Depeche Mode cover “Wrong” were immediately followed by three more songs from the album “Radio Signals for the Dying”, which was released in 2024. There was something hypnotizing about the driving beats, the swinging synths, the full sound of the voice and Elena Alice Fossi’s aesthetic dances. Fog crept from the stage through the rows of spectators and enveloped the room, interweaving emotion, sound and visuals into a coherent overall composition. With “Shadowcrown”, the band presented a new song. Of course, “Heldenplatz” was not to be missed.

Kirlian Camera enchanted their audience with a haunting soundscape. Dazzled by the beauty of the vocal power and elegance, the audience succumbed to the vibrations of the performance. And there were also broad smiles, jokes and laughter on stage. Singer and bassist Irene shared the microphone, Elene giggled as she played with her hair and the three musicians joked with each other in their mother tongue. It quickly became clear that the artists were enjoying the evening just as much as the audience. With cover songs such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana or “Too Many Friends” by Placebo, Kirlian Camera wrapped those numbers by other musicians in their own familiar sound. They ended their set with their interpretation of the Ultravox cover song “Hymn” and left the stage. But not completely, because before Angelo could disappear, calls for an encore were heard and the musician made contact with the technology by flickering his flashlight. The fans didn’t have to wait long and their applause was rewarded with more popular songs. “Odyssey Europa” was the crowning finale to a wonderful concert.
