When Tuomas Holopainen sat down picturesquely around the fire with a few friends to talk about forming a new band, the only thing they knew was that they would need a singer. There was no talk of the band’s name yet: “I hadn’t thought of the name ‘NIGHTWISH’ yet, but the concept was already in my head,” Tuomas recalled in the official biography “Once Upon a Nightwish”. Together with Erno Vuorinen and Tarja Turunen, the first songs were recorded in the Huvikeskus studio at the end of 1996: “The Forever Moments”, “Etiäinen” and the eponymous track “Nightwish”.
