THE CHILDREN’S CRUSADE: Nostalgic industrial rock

Originally conceived as a studio project by Jason Schmal in 2022, it became a fully-fledged band the following year. The Children’s Crusade come from Chicago and present their debut album “Black, Bruised, and Broken Down”, a concept album that involves you in a dark story in which the protagonist visibly loses his identity. Themes such as obsession, excess, self-hatred and disillusionment come to the fore. Musically, The Children’s Crusade ‘s biggest role model – Ministry – perhaps shimmers through a little, but the style is clear: nostalgic-sounding industrial rock that doesn’t copy anything, but creates it itself.

The name The Children’s Crusade was chosen because of Jason’s penchant for morbid history. It refers to the real-life Children’s Crusade of 1212: “I thought it was a brutal name that had to do with blind or misguided devotion that led to the downfall of many,” he explains.
