THE CITY GATES: Between post-punk and cold wave
Named after the seven city gates that once marked the entrance to Roman Londinium, The City Gates have long since made a name for themselves in the post-punk and cold wave scenes. The Canadian band has shared the stage with acts such as The Chameleons, Actors, Selofan, Traitrs, and Solar Fake. In May, the trio released their third album, titled “Chimera.” On it, The City Gates blend a melancholic post-punk atmosphere with the driving energy of cold wave, creating a sound that balances a dark mood with rousing dynamism. Anyone who hasn’t discovered the band yet and appreciates the sound of greats like Joy Division should definitely give “Chimera” a listen.
