★ After the sombre “Pornography”, Robert Smith returned from his month-long retreat in the Lake District to write “Let’s Go to Bed”.
★ The song represents a kind of antithesis to what The Cure represented at the time.
★ When he played the song for his label, they were stunned: “You can’t be serious,” he later recalled in an interview with Rolling Stone. “But I wanted to do something really happy.”
★ The music video is the first collaboration between The Cure and Tim Pope.
★ “Let’s Go to Bed” reached number 32 in the US charts and 44 in the UK.
