44 years ago today, on July 31, 1981, “Love Action (I Believe in Love)” by The Human League was released. Did you already know these 10 facts?
★ “Love Action (I Believe in Love)” was The Human League‘s first top 10 success, initially reaching number 3 in the UK charts.
★ The song was written by lead singer Philip Oakey and keyboardist Ian Burden.
★ “Love Action (I Believe in Love)” was released as a double A-side single together with the track “Hard Times”, which was not included on the album “Dare”.
★ After the great success of “Don’t You Want Me”, a video was subsequently shot for “Love Action”, which was released in America on August 11, 1982.
★ The plot is loosely based on the 1967 film “The Graduate” and the opening scene is an exact copy of the church scene from the movie.
★ The majority of the video was filmed in a dilapidated council estate in south London.
★ The church scenes were filmed at St. Saviour’s, Warwick Avenue.
★ “Love Action (I Believe in Love)” was the 34th best-selling single in the UK in 1981.
★ The song can be heard in the video game “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories” (2006) and in the series “Ashes to Ashes” (2008) in episode 4 of the first season. It was also used for an episode of “Skins” in 2009.
