THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS: 12 facts

On the occasion of Thirty Seconds to Mars ‘ latest album with the promising title “It’s the End of the World but It’s a Beautiful Day”, we have put together 12 facts:
Facts:
– With “It’s the End of the World but It’s a Beautiful Day”, Thirty Seconds to Mars release their sixth album.
– Brothers Jared and Shannon Leto worked on around two hundred song ideas, as Jared told NME back in November 2021, ten of which they chose for the new album.
– Lyrically, the two process their emotions and experiences of the past five years since the release of “America” (2018): “Shannon and I wanted to make an album that, above all, shows who we are today,” explains Jared.
– The development process proved to be quite difficult, says Jared Leto: “I’m definitely not the type of person who just turns up and makes sure everything is easy and uncomplicated.”
– The focus of his work has always been “to create something really valuable, creative and special”.
– Jared cites “such a feeling of confidence, something solemn, a vulnerability and yet also such a new simplicity” as a common thread.
– Brevity is the spice of life: While Thirty Seconds to Mars used to have no problem creating 12-minute songs, for “It’s the End of the World but It’s a Beautiful Day” it was important to them to compress the length to less than three and a half minutes. “A completely new experience for us, and it also requires a good deal of restraint.”
– Shannon, who is responsible for the drums on the album and also worked as a producer, played an important role.
– “Life Is Beautiful” was originally supposed to be called “Misery”. But then Jared realized that “there is already enough misery in the world. And actually, there are more days in my life when I look up to the sky and see the beauty in everything – and that’s why I’m glad that the song now goes in that direction.”
– Shannon could already be heard as the lead singer in “Remedy” (from “America”). He continues this in his new work: in “Midnight Prayer”. Jared smiles when he thinks of “Remedy”: “It just took me 20 years for my songs to be sung along to by an entire stadium, and with him it was the very first performance – and everyone sang along, like a real anthem.”
– Shannon’s vocals have also taught Jared something, as in the past it was not so easy for him to give his voice a certain vulnerability. Now he discovered “a more intimate, more vulnerable side that somehow reveals more and seems more truthful.”
– If Jared has his way, it won’t be another five years before the next album: “We have a lot more song ideas that are already pretty far advanced. So I’m very confident that this chapter will produce even more new music very soon.”
