WESTENRA: Gothic rock par excellence

Founded in Whitby in 2019, Westenra create gothic rock at its finest, which also manifests itself on their second album “Burn Me Once”. We talk to the band about the track “For All to See”, which has existed in its basic form since 2020, but was never arranged in a way that satisfied the trio. “Since then, some of the lyrics have been rewritten and we’ve all reworked the arrangement together. The song is about how some people spend too much time on social media, spreading their whole lives out there, looking for validation from others and making their self-worth dependent on the opinions of others. The song is a gentle reminder that it’s okay to have a more private life in the real world, and that you and your experiences are valuable even if you don’t share them on social media. We are very happy with the outcome of this song and glad we waited until it was ready to release it.”
What are the future plans for Westenra? “This year we will be working on some new videos to promote the new album ‘Burn Me Once’. We have headlining gigs planned at festivals and will be working on new material later in the year. But we’d also love to play further afield in Germany and Europe!” – Well, maybe this wish can come true?
