WGT Memories 2023: DER FLUCH
“… it even melts my stony heart.” (Deutscher W)
How often have you been to the WGT so far? (As a visitor and as an artist)
With Der Fluch it was now the sixth or seventh time and once I was still a guest with Projekt Mensch of my “Neue Dunkle Härte” band in Leipzig.
What did you think before the gig and how do you look back on it today?
The visitation in the Täubchenthal was always perfect. I don’t know anything like stage fright, but the anticipation was especially great this time, because with Chris van Helsing and Dr. Caligari two new dark hearts beat with “the cursed ones”. The people in front of the stage were full of enthusiasm and it was nice to look into their eyes. The children of the night were heart and soul from the first eerie note to the last chord of our witching hour. The evening is one of the best I have experienced at the WGT with “the cursed”. The energy could be felt and heard all the way to the last rows. It’s always a freaking pleasure for me to look into the faces of those who dance the witches with us, and I enjoy going down and over the barrier bars to join them and do likewise.
Which song did you particularly like to play?
“Halb Mensch halb Tier” we played this time minimally different than in the last 40 years, but my favorites are then nevertheless pieces like “Gottes Schwert” or “Herr der Fliegen” … Actually I like all pieces and when you then see how the masses of people go off during “Rattengift”, it even makes my stony heart melt. What I love about “Gottes Schwert” is the combination of lyrics and music … both bitterly evil.
Were there any personal meetings that meant a lot to you?
The answer would be too intimate – but I was very pleased, for example, that Sven Borges (organizer WGT) was especially on site or also the head and maker of Death in Rome, with which I start something completely new this year. Maybe then the next thing for WGT?!
What will you remember for a long time from this year’s WGT?
Leonie, a little girl at the merch stand. with whom I was “allowed” to take a picture and of course all the other children of the night who celebrated us so much. Thank you!
