“<\/strong>And we thought to ourselves: ‘Is this guy crazy?”” (Marian Gold)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

In the first <\/a>two <\/a>parts of our big interview, we spoke to Alphaville mastermind<\/strong> Marian Gold<\/strong> about the “Forever! Best of 40 Years” and mainly looked back to the past.\nThat now changes in the final part.\nWhat does the future hold for Alphaville<\/strong>? <\/p>\n\n

“What would David Bowie do?”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Gold remembers the early days, when it was more or less thanks to the publisher at the time that “Forever Young”, then still an uptempo song, became an overwhelming ballad.\nThe work on the recording took too long for him, so he had the individual channels on the mixing desk explained to him.\n“He put his outstretched arms over the faders of almost every track and pulled them down to zero. What was left were strings and vocals. And we thought to ourselves: ‘Is this guy crazy? But then it turned out to be a brilliant idea as soon as we heard it for the first time.”\nDoes Marian Gold like to be talked into his work?\n“Since this experience, I’ve been totally open to ideas from others,” he explains.\n“Then you realize that sometimes even the biggest numbskulls have the greatest ideas. There’s nothing wrong with trying things out quickly.”\nHe also has a trick that gets him out of creative blocks: “When I get into situations like this, where absolutely nothing works, I ask myself: ‘What would Bowie<\/strong> do? In truth, of course, I don’t know what he would do. But the moment I ask myself that, it changes my mindset. Then I’m no longer stuck in this dead end mentally, but I follow my free-flying imagination about David Bowie<\/strong>.\nThat has often helped me to get out of such lockdown situations.” <\/p>\n\n

“Very basic.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

How does the journey of the astral spaceship called Alphaville<\/strong>\n continue? First comes the tour, in November, to promote the new album. “I don’t really know what will happen after that,” Gold ponders. “We’re working on the usual next studio album, of course. It will probably be called “Thunderbaby”. We’ve already written a lot of stuff for it. All I can say about it: At the moment it’s very, very simple, naive music. Very basic. I can’t say that I don’t like it. I think it’s pretty cool in that simplicity. It could possibly be the simplest and catchiest album we’ve ever made. But not all the songs have been written yet. And sometimes a song comes up unexpectedly that is a game changer. It turns the whole concept you had before completely on its head. And you say: ‘We have to do everything completely differently now’. That can still happen. And that’s wonderful, no matter how it turns out.” <\/p>\n\n
