Faded stardust, part 4: The tracks:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

52 years ago, David Bowie<\/strong> released “Pin Ups”, a pure cover album. You missed the first three parts? No problem, click here for part 1<\/a>. In the fourth and final part, we take a closer look at the individual pieces: <\/p>\n\n

1. “Rosalyn<\/strong> ” – The original version is by The Pretty Things<\/strong> and was the band’s first hit in 1964.<\/p>\n

2. “Here Comes the Night <\/strong>” – The Northern Irish band Them <\/strong>and their singer Van Morrison reached number 2 in the British charts with this song in March 1965.<\/p>\n

3. “I Wish You Would <\/strong>” – Billy Boy Arnold<\/strong> created the original version. Bowie’s cover, however, was based on the version by The Yardbirds (1964). <\/p>\n

4. “See Emily Play <\/strong>” – This Pink Floyd song<\/strong> from 1967 is about a girl called Emily, who frontman Syd Barrett claims to have seen playing in the woods after taking a psychedelic drug.<\/p>\n

5. “Everything’s Alright <\/strong>” – In 1964, The Mojos <\/strong>made it to number 9 in the charts with this song.<\/p>\n

6. “I Can’t Explain <\/strong>” – Pete Townshend, head of The Who<\/strong>, suddenly had this song in his head when he was just 18 years old.<\/p>\n

7. “Friday on My Mind <\/strong>– The Australian bandTheEasybeats<\/strong> described the boredom of a working week here in 1966.<\/p>\n

8th “Sorrow <\/strong>” – Originally by The McCoys<\/strong> (1965), David Bowie used the version by The Merseys<\/strong> (1966).<\/p>\n

9. “Don’t Bring Me Down<\/strong> ” – The<\/strong> second song by The Pretty Things<\/strong> that Bowie interpreted for “Pin Ups”.<\/p>\n

10 “Shapes of Things<\/strong> ” – The Yardsbirds<\/strong> are also represented with a second song. This was their first chart success (1966). <\/p>\n

11. “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere<\/strong> ” – This is the only song that Roger Daltrey<\/strong> and Pete Townsend<\/strong> wrote together for The Who<\/strong> in 1965.<\/p>\n

12. “Where Have All the Good Times Gone<\/strong> ” – Ray Davies from The Kinks<\/strong> (1965) was inspired here by older people he observed in the pub.<\/p>\n
