In Covert<\/strong> mix elements of death rock with industrial metal and post-punk on their debut album “Bleak Machinery”. The formation, consisting of Wes Lopez (guitar, synth), Kris Balocca (vocals), Oscar Ruvalcaba (drums) and Victor Guitierrez (bass) from Los Angeles found inspiration in The Cure<\/strong>, X-Files<\/strong> and Godflesh<\/strong> – which is reflected in a certain way in the sound without copying.<\/p>\n\n

In Covers<\/strong> was founded at the end of 2019 by Wes, who initially released a few singles on his own. At the beginning of 2023, the project slowly developed into a band. The name comes from the series “The X-Files” – Wes admits to being a big fan and adds: “I really liked the sound of the words ‘In Covert’ because it seemed dark and mysterious. It was also a good fit as I initially composed the songs in secret and the sound reflected my depressive thoughts.” <\/p>\n\n

The song “Death Embers”, which combines harmony with the harshness of industrial music, is particularly recommended. The track was written on a cold February day in Los Angeles after Wes had watched the horror short film “My Sweet Satan”. “I had some pent-up emotions that day and started playing around on my guitar, then the opening riff came to me.” And so, little by little, “Death Embers” was born within a very short space of time. The lyrics were written by singer Kris and “poignantly reflect the raw emotions he felt during his time of grief and loss after the tragic death of a friend.” <\/p>\n\n

And now? In Covert<\/strong> are busy writing new material, preparing live performances in L.A. and will be back in the recording studio in December. “We’ll also be shooting more music videos for songs from ‘Bleak Machinery’, for example ‘Nowhere to Turn’. For next year, we are planning another tour, the release of a new single and more videos,” says Wes. <\/p>\n\n
