– What is “Temple of Love” actually about? As Andrew Eldritch is known for never explicitly commenting on his lyrics and their creation, there are numerous theories. One deals with the subject of war. In addition to the fact that Eldritch’s father belonged to the British Air Force, the starting point for this theory is the lyric “96 below the wave”. A possible allusion to the 1981 film adaptation of “Das Boot”, the novel by Lothar-G\u00fcnther Buchheim about the German submarine U-96. <\/p>\n\n
