For JA\u00ceSA <\/strong>alias Janina Draxinger, music is a way of channeling her feelings and thoughts; she speaks of self-therapy: “Because I can get certain thoughts off my chest or give myself courage, hope or strength. Others write diaries, I write songs.” She can now look back on 18 releases, including music videos, and has been on stage with a changing live line-up since the end of 2022. <\/p>\n\n

With her single “When We Were Younger”, JA\u00ceSA <\/strong>speaks from the soul of many, as she addresses the aging and possible death of a loved one in the love song. The themes of death and transience never leave her. “Consequently, this manifests itself in my fear of having to let the person I love the most go at some point. When I saw a clip of a documentary on social media one day about an elderly couple who were so in love with each other until the end and who both passed away very soon after each other, the first lines of text immediately popped into my head. I tried to put myself in their shoes, but of course I couldn’t ignore my own perspective, fears and feelings,” explains Janina. <\/p>\n\n

The latest single “Empathy” also gets under your skin. Does JA\u00ceSA <\/strong>consider herself to be a very empathetic person? She nods: “I do have the feeling that I’ve reduced this somewhat in recent years out of self-protection – because it’s often incredibly difficult not to overstep your own feelings, principles and boundaries. It’s a different issue with animals, I’ve been vegan for over eleven years now and that stems precisely from this empathy, because I couldn’t bear to be partly responsible for so much suffering. So yes, empathy hurts a lot in most cases, but the world would be a much nicer place if everyone had this quality. <\/p>\n\n

In February, JA\u00ceSA <\/strong>will release the EP “Forever and in Death”, which will contain six songs. “Songs of the heart”, as she smiles. “When writing the songs, I let my gut feeling take over and dropped all the self-imposed boundaries. The result is even more honest and at times more heartbreaking than anything I’ve created before, and I’m incredibly proud of that. Each of these six tracks is accompanied by a lovingly conceived music video.” Ja\u00eesa is also writing her debut album. “Apart from that, I’m really looking forward to developing more and more over the next few years – as a person and as an artist and, of course, to performing on the big gothic and metal stages,” the artist concludes with a smile.
