Post-punk in French<\/strong>? In their single “La Douleur (des Mortels)”, The City Gates prove just how well the earthy sounds harmonize with their mother tongue. The outstanding guitar work, which gives the song its characteristic touch, is particularly eye-catching – er, ear-catching. Although the track sets a rousing tempo, it is thought-provoking. The Canadians explore the boundaries of Greek mythology and transfer the idea of the afterlife to the present day. They have mastered the perfect blend of raw sounds, dark subject matter and poetic language. <\/p>\n\n
