In our two-part interview, we talk with Athamay<\/strong> about her fourth album, \u201cNecropolis,\u201d which is about much more than just death. If you missed the first part, you can read it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

A Scandalous Welcome?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The opening track, \u201cThe Nun,\u201d follows a character \u201cwho began to lose her way, haunted by visions and inner demons through sinful nights,\u201d seeking atonement or redemption \u201cthrough increasingly destructive paths. The story works on both a literal and metaphorical level.\u201d At its core, it\u2019s about the \u201closs of faith, not only in the religious sense,\u201d but also in the sense of faith \u201cin oneself, in others, and in the values that once gave life meaning.\u201d When that disappears, \u201ceverything around her begins to collapse.\u201d Once deeply devoted to her faith, circumstances gradually transform the nun into something that is the very opposite of what she used to represent. In Greece, Christianity is deeply \u201cembedded in society, culture, and everyday life. In that sense, the themes of faith, doubt, guilt, and spiritual conflict were always present around me.\u201d The song is influenced by this and \u201cexplores what can happen when the structures and ideas that once defined a person begin to fall apart.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

A Walk Through a Cemetery & Fascinating Necropolises?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Marlen talks about Mycenae, home to some of Greece\u2019s oldest burial sites, dating back to the Bronze Age. \u201cIt feels like a place where myth and history converge. Walking through it gives you a strong sense of an ancient world that\u2019s still present in the landscape today.\u201d Sean mentions the Catacombs of Paris and Whitby\u2014a place he\u2019s also become familiar with through his work as a DJ. \u201cWhitby Cemetery,\u201d the cemetery near Whitby Abbey, can even be seen in the background of the album cover art! <\/p>\n\n
