Norwegian Viking metal icons Einherjer are making an impressive comeback with their new album, \u201cLifeblood.\u201d Founding member Gerhard Storesund talks to us in two parts about what motivates him to keep going strong after 33 years. <\/p>\n\n

Giving it their all\u2014with blood, sweat, and tears<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

They didn\u2019t realize it was an anniversary until after everything had already been recorded, but looking back, it all makes sense. With their new album \u201cLifeblood,\u201d Einherjer look back on a long career filled with many ups and downs and celebrate this \u201clifeblood\u201d that their music has become for them. Founding member Gerhard Storesund talks about this milestone: \u201cWe\u2019ve been doing this for a while now, and it\u2019s definitely a milestone that we\u2019re releasing this album. We\u2019ve moved a bit away from the Nordic-historical perspective and are focusing more on human themes. I think that\u2019s how you can interpret the lyrics.\u201d The drummer gets philosophical: \u201cThe title \u2018Lifeblood\u2019 refers to the people in our lives, the community. We\u2019re all part of something bigger than just ourselves. We\u2019re just a tiny speck in time. Just like the two of us here right now\u2014just a moment.\u201d With a glass of wine in his \u201cman cave,\u201d and the drums in the background, the Norwegian goes into detail: \u201cIt\u2019s also about continuity and history. We\u2019ve been doing this for 33 years now, and we started because we enjoy it. I love playing the drums, rock \u2019n\u2019 roll, and metal, and we wanted to create something. After a while, it becomes a kind of institution, a part of life. Probably even the most important part. That\u2019s who I am. If I\u2019m not making music, I don\u2019t really know who I am.\u201d <\/p>\n\n
