Interview appointments with Marc Almond are a true rarity. The first Soft Cell<\/strong> album in 20 years – “Happiness Not Included” – is no exception. And so we are all the happier to have actually managed to look the 64-year-old face to face in London. Although he prefers to keep his private life under wraps, we managed to elicit a few secrets from him….<\/p>\n\n

An amazing openness<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

A week and a half before the album release, we find ourselves at the office of his London record company, a five-minute walk from Paddington Station. One is emphatically courteous and relaxed. A coffee to welcome him and then the request to follow into a conference room – Marc was ready. Which is only half the truth. Actually, he’s about to eat a pink donut with black coffee – while at the same time typing on the keyboard of his cell phone and making comments like “pfff”, “oh” or, “yeah” – followed by a “be right with you” to his next conversation partner. The ravages of time have not stopped at Marc Almond and give an idea of his eventful life. He has already been visibly ailing since his motorcycle accident in 2004: “I have memory lapses and often lose the thread. I also had Corona three times, in 2020 even so bad that I was flat for almost a year.” A startling openness.<\/p>\n\n
