20 years ago: Profile with VNV NATION

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

(The following interview was first published in the Orkus! issue September 2003)

20 years ago we asked Ronan Harris(VNV NATION) the very personal questions of our “profile” (Steckbrief). Read here in part two what makes Ronan Harris laugh and cry and what he does first thing when he gets up in the morning.

What makes you laugh?
People who can’t take a joke are funny (at least until they start hitting me for laughing at them). Eddie Izzard (a British comedian). People who try to convince me that a Mac is better than a PC (each to their own). Umbra et Imago. Bender and Zoidberg from “Futurama”. Orkus! poems.

What makes you cry?
Standing on hills. Being told that the bar is closing now and I need to go home. Beautiful emotional music. To hear that there will be no new season of “Futurama”. The loss of a love (smelling a rose, looking out a window into the distance).

What’s the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?
On a normal day, I drink coffee and watch the news. After a long night, it’s different: I open my eyes, wonder where I am, and check my pockets to see if I can find Polaroid photos with phrases like “Don’t believe their lies” or “It’s him, kill him” scrawled on them (if you haven’t seen “Memento,” you won’t understand). About ten minutes later, I remember what I did and spend the rest of the day speculating whether the police might be looking for the “naked guy at the gas station.”

In part three, you’ll find out who Ronan Harris would like to be related to, whose skin he’d like to be in, what his favorite movies, books, and heroes are, and the strangest job he’s ever held. And it really has it in it!
