250 days ago: WGT 2023 (part 2)

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

Pentecost Sunday 2023 was already 250 days ago. But that doesn’t make the memory of the 30th Wave-Gotik-Treffen fade. We look back on the WGT 2023. If you missed the first part, you can read it here.

On Friday, things really got going with numerous concerts, readings, exhibitions, guided tours and lots of other programs. The famous Victorian Picnic in Clara Zetkin Park was very well attended. The green area shone once again in dazzling black. Outfits and elaborately designed picnic arrangements with great attention to detail were on display. Always a good opportunity to see old acquaintances and new faces, to arrive in style in a nice atmosphere before saying goodbye to the rest of the evening’s plans. (FW)

After an amazingly long night, many of us went straight to the agra on Friday as a matter of course to indulge in unrestrained consumption. But all the shopping couldn’t brighten the mood, because the true sunshine of the WGT was nowhere to be found. We’re talking about Noctulus, who surely shouldn’t have stayed away from the festival in all seriousness? To escape the emerging gloom, we headed in the direction of Westbad – which couldn’t have been timed worse by the writer at this point, as it felt like twelve zillion people wanted to take the same streetcar to the Depeche Mode concert. After the gripping performance by Assemblage 23, Suicide Commando provided a nostalgic finale with a set that fabulously showcased the band history of the Belgian veterans! (MLH)

At the same time, V2A and FabrikC played at Haus Leipzig and Skeletal Family at Täubchenthal, which was extremely interesting for another part of our editorial team. Harpyie ‘s performance was also duly celebrated in the Heidnisches Dorf, while Qntal had to struggle with sound problems, but this didn’t detract from the brilliant atmosphere. For those with less of a medieval bent, there were the Australians from Ikon and the British band The Chameleons to enjoy in the agra, before Lord of the Lost rounded off the evening perfectly with their energetic performance. In the next part, we focus on the WGT Saturday. Among others with Lord of the Lost, Front 242, Covenant and Faun.
