40 years ago: THOMPSON TWINS

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

To mark the 40th anniversary of their album “Into the Gap”, Thompson Twins are releasing their special “Anniversary Edition”. Their fourth album, released in 1984, achieved multi-platinum status. It stayed at number 1 in the UK for three weeks and reached the top 10 in the USA. Into the Gap” has now been remastered as a 3-CD set at the legendary Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright. The “Anniversary Edition” also includes interviews, a limited edition on red vinyl, a digital deluxe version and an exclusive Dolby Atmos digital and Blu-ray version.

Alannah remembers the pioneering work of the Thompson Twins: “The reason we were able to produce the tracks in this form in the first place was that we had discovered the synthesizer and the drum machine. Suddenly we were able to make big-sounding records with just three people in the studio. Our aim was to combine traditional instruments and beats with big synthesizer sounds, combining human warmth with the cool sounds of machines. Especially in America, we were constantly accused of our songs not being ‘real music’ because we rejected the popular concept of rock’n’roll and the use of guitars in favor of synthesizers and percussion.”
